Garden buildings & storageDescription
INDIAN BEAN TREE - The Catalpa bignonioides Nana commonly known as the Indian Bean Tree is a close branched compact slow growing deciduous tree. This very attractive small flat-topped spherical shrub can grow up to 2-2.5 metres in height with the crown growing to up to 1 metre wide. It produces heart shaped mid-green leaves in late Spring that carry through until the Summer. During the Autumn the leaves turn a lovely buttery yellow colour before dropping off.
PLANTING LOCATION - The Catalpa Nana likes to grow in moist well draining soil in a sunny sheltered position but can cope with heavy clay soil. It is important to shelter it from strong winds as this can cause premature leaf drop and protect from late Spring frosts while the plant is young. Due to its compact nature this tree is ideal for growing in a variety of planting schemes. It does well in cottage and informal gardens
